Contemporary powerhouse Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro are presenting a new site-specific work that will be unveiled at the Fair. Commissioned by BondorPanel, ‘Tower of Power’ is a neo-medieval tower rendered in slick, early third millennial, industrial vernacular. The resultant tower will be equally aesthetic as it is utilitarian.

Historically- art fairs, like biennials are an easy way to get a feel of the art world zeitgeist. Humans excel in generating patterns by interpreting available data. Pundits at art fairs put together information gleaned from individual booths, installations and talks to inform themselves and others about what is ‘So Hot Right Now’.

The neo-medieval tower both monitors and fosters the flow of information that occurs at Sydney Contemporary. Visitors are invited to climb the tower, giving them an elevated vantage point within Carriageworks. This offers them an architectural ‘god’s eye’ view to the ebb and flow of the fair.

The tower will also function as a mobile phone charging site. While attendees look over the art fair from above, they may also recharge the battery of their mobile phone. The combination of old school architectural observation strategies teamed with new school networked FoMo sensibilities illustrates the ongoing desire to keep our finger on the pulse in order to produce victorious outcomes!
